Using a Chakra Tarot Spread in Your Meditation Practice

Learn how to combine chakra energy with tarot wisdom in this step-by-step guide. Discover an 8-step chakra tarot spread meditation practice to identify blocked energy, promote healing, and enhance spiritual growth.

Table Of Contents

A chakra tarot spread is an effective instrument in the spiritual world that is the mix of 7 chakras’ energy and tarot cards’ wisdom. Every card in such a spread is related to a particular chakra and opens the door to your emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being.

Basic knowledge of tarot cards’ meanings is required. Using this spread, both beginners and professionals can see what chakras may be in balance, overactive, or even blocked. Together with that, the meditation practice gets more focused when a chakra tarot spread is part of the process.

If you don’t know where to start, take a look at this simple how-to guide. Learn to deepen your connection to both your intuition and your body in 1,2,3…

Step 1. Have a Space for the Séance

To have the most insightful reading possible, prepare your space well. Even if you are about to have a tarot card reading online, it’s better to settle in a separate room, far from the noise of the crowds.

  • Pick the spot where you feel both relaxed and safe.
  • Turn on soft music, light a candle, and burn incense to have the most peaceful vibe possible.
  • Prepare your deck, a journal, and a chakra chart.

Step 2. Ground Yourself and Focus

  • Sit comfortably.
  • Is your spine straight?
  • Close your eyes.
  • Breathe in, breathe out 4-5 times.
  • Focus on the connection between you and your body.
  • Calm your mind.

Step 3. Think of Your Intentions

The intention(s) are usually related to your spiritual growth, getting emotional clarity, or energy alignment.

To set your intentions, we recommend asking yourself:

  • “What is it that I need to balance now?”
  • “What do I want to learn about my chakras?”
  • “What should I do today to improve my energy balance?”

Step 4. Shuffle the Deck and Pull Seven Cards

Make sure that you are 100% focused on your intention and start shuffling the deck. Now, your task is to draw one card for every chakra. Place them all in a vertical line. Begin from the base (Root) to the top (Crown).

ChakraCard PositionColor
Root (Muladhara)1st card – baseRed
Sacral (Svadhisthana)2nd cardOrange
Solar Plexus (Manipura)3rd cardYellow
Heart (Anahata)4th cardGreen
Throat (Vishuddha)5th cardBlue
Third Eye (Ajna)6th cardIndigo
Crown (Sahasrara)7th card – topViolet

Step 5. Do Interpretation of Every Card

Start at the Root and go from chakra to chakra. Think about what every card tells you about your energy in that area. Is your chakra blocked, well-balanced, or overstimulated? Take notes in the process to have deeper insights.

Step 6. Meditate on Every Card and Chakra

Make sure to focus on every chakra at a time. Close your eyes and visualize the color of this or that chakra and breathe deeply. Think about the message that spirits are trying to convey and affirm healing mantras. For example, for the Throat chakra, it can be something like “All I speak is truth.”

Pay attention to all imbalances and patterns. Are the cards for Root, Sacral, or Solar Plexus (your lower chakras) blocked or just more chaotic? At the same time, are the upper ones more open? If yes, chances are each of those areas needs more energy work or some adjustments in your lifestyle. Always listen to your body as you reflect. Do a gentle scan to detect any release, tension, or warmth in the zones of the chakras. As a result, you will be able to integrate the insights not just mentally but somatically (related to the body) as well.

Step 7. End the Practice

When you are done working with all the chakras, take your time to breathe in and breathe out. If you feel like it, do not hesitate to draw the final card and ask, “What is the overall message that I have to take from this séance and carry it with me?” Be grateful. Say thank you to your cards, your body, and your mind for the meditation experience you had.

Step 8. Reflect and Write Down Your Thoughts

Writing down your reflections is an effective habit in any practice. In the case of using a chakra tarot spread in your meditation practice, make sure to journal about what you noticed in the process, from emotions and themes to breakthroughs and any kind of energetic imbalances. All of these notes can be used to set intentions for your personal growth and energy work.

Common Mistakes to Avoid when Using a Chakra Tarot Spread in Meditation

Even the most professional and experienced practitioners seem to fall into traps from time to time. Take a look at the list of the most common mistakes to get better insights from your next spread:

  • Being too quick and superficial. The mix of chakra + tarot is very deep. Do not simply rush through cards and their meanings. Slow down and focus on every chakra and card.
  • Using generic card interpretations. Make sure to interpret every card through the lens of the chakra that it represents. For instance, consider The Hermit in the Root Chakra as some sort of isolation because of safety fears.
  • You force positive messages only. The reality is that not every message the spirits send your way will be positive. But that’s life. No matter how tempted you are to ignore negative cards, it’s better to face the truth. After all, it is discomfort that growth usually comes from.
  • You neglect body awareness. As we have mentioned above, chakra work is both somatic and energy-based. If you do not take into account how you feel at the physical level during meditation (pressure, tension, heat, etc.), chances are you’re going to miss vital messages.
  • Zero grounding is present. If you feel anxious or are simply doing the chakra spread just to get things done ASAP, chances are the result of your reading will be chaotic. Do not forget about grounding! Pay attention to your intentions, how you breathe, and do a quick body scan before you start meditating.
  • You analyze too much. Too much is never a good thing, especially when you have to deal with complex spreads. No matter how much you are stuck in the mental analysis, let your heart and body wisdom be part of the process too.
  • You fail to take action. Meditating in tandem with the chakra spread is just part of the journey. If you don’t reflect, take notes, or do something about your reading, you will simply miss the whole point of this powerful practice.

If looking for powerful ways to connect with your energy centers, a chakra tarot spread is the answer. Not only will you detect all of the emotional blocks, but you’ll also boost your personal growth and restore the balance of energy.
